Finding fun indoor lockdown activities has been the reason why I’ve (just about) managed to keep my sanity intact over the last few weeks. There’s only so much Netflix you can watch, after all.
Even in normal times, doing indoor activities has been an important part of my working from home routine. Stopping work at the end of the day to do one of my favourite online workout videos is my way of detaching and switching to ‘me time’.
During lockdown, discovering new ways to pass the time has been a bit of a clutch for me. Doing more of what I love, and finding new things to do along the way, has made coping with lockdown that little bit easier.
Here are the three things that I’ve been doing religiously since quarantine began. Maybe they will be up your street as well!
Getting in shape with Rebecca Louise Fitness
I’m a big advocate for exercising to protect mental health and Rebecca Louise Fitness is my go-to. I’ve been following Rebecca Lousie for a few years on YouTube and just love her fitness videos. She has hundreds (probably thousands by now) of short, but very effective, workout videos that are actually really enjoyable to do.
I took the plunge a few months ago and signed up to her BTES app. From just $3.99 a month, you get a workout calendar, which contains a different, exclusive 28-minute workout video every day. I’ve been using it religiously since the lockdown began and am beginning to see some real results. My legs have never been so toned!
What’s more, during quarantine, Rebecca Louise has been hosting live workouts for her BTES members. They are so much fun, especially the Spice Girls one!
Rebecca Louise has managed to make me love working out. She has such infectious enthusiasm, you can’t help but want to join her. She also has a motivation podcast, which I’ve found very uplifting during the coronavirus misery we’re living through at the moment.
Unleashing my inner pop diva with The Fitness Marshall
If you’re anything like me and lived for dancing along to music videos as a kid, you’re going to love The Fitness Marshall, fronted by “YouTube’s hottest fitness pop star” Caleb Scott.
With over 3m YouTube subscribers, I have no idea how it took me so long to discover him. Set to top pop and R&B tunes, he has loads of amazing dance routines you can follow along to.
I recently signed up to be part of his Booty Army, which offers exclusive 60-minute live ‘Sweat Sessions’ once a week. These workouts honestly bring me so much joy, it’s 100% worth the money.
Trying to become a master of origami
I find origami totally fascinating. The fact people can make the most beautiful and incredible shapes just by folding paper amazes me. What better time to try it for myself than during quarantine!
Since buying Origami for Mindfulness, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve developed a little bit of an origami problem. I can’t stop buying new origami papers – there are just so many pretty designs out there!
While I am a long way off becoming a pro, I really enjoy how present I am when doing origami. I literally think of nothing else than trying to make the perfect folds. I can’t believe such a simple activity can bring me so much joy.
I’m sure there are loads more indoor lockdown activities I would love, but just haven’t discovered yet. That’s the big silver lining of quarantine. It gives us the downtime we so rarely have in our normal lives to explore new things.
