We’ve all been there. You’re tired, cranky and have no desire to work. Yet you still have masses to do and it all has to be done by the end of the day.

I’ve been having a few too many of these days recently.

So when London Nootropics sent me their three adaptogenic coffee blends to try, it sounded like a saviour had come to my rescue. Anything that claims to boost brain power and concentration is well worth a try in my book!

London Nootropics launched last year to help people ‘flow through their day’ by combining great tasting coffee with the power of adaptogenic ingredients. They have three blends – Grind, Mojo and Zen – all carefully crafted to give you a boost at different times of day.

After reading about the benefits of the adaptogenic ingredients they use, I couldn’t wait to give them a try. I was really intrigued to see whether a daily dose of London Nootropics could supercharge my WFH days.

What are nootropics and adaptogens?

Before we go any further, let’s clear up exactly what nootropics and adaptogenic ingredients are.

Literally meaning ‘mind turning’, nootropics are brain boosters. They have a wide range of reported benefits, including improved thinking, memory and focus. Despite the fancy name, you’ve probably been taking daily doses of nootropics most of your adult life in the form of caffeine (I know I certainly have).

Put simply, adaptogens are compounds (often herbs) that help the body to adapt. They are immunity boosters that help our bodies find balance and combat both mental and physical stressors. They are entirely natural ingredients that can support the adrenal glands, which are so overworked by our modern lifestyles.

Although they’re a relatively recent wellness trend, adaptogenic ingredients have been used in Ayurvedic and Asian medicine for thousands of years.

London Nootropics: where barista-style coffee meets the power of adaptogens

The London Nootropics team was keen to unlock the power of adaptogens and make them accessible for all, without compromising on taste.

They scoured the world to find the highest quality ingredients and went to lengths to carefully formulate each blend to create the desired effects.

Their Grind blend is for mental clarity, concentration and motivation. It contains Lion’s Mane, an ancient medicinal mushroom that’s known to stimulate nerve growth factor and help support memory, cognitive function and brain health. Rhodiola is another powerful ingredient, which can help the body adapt to stress.

Mojo is the blend designed to help give you a natural boost before exercise or when feeling fatigued. It features powerhouse ingredients Cordyceps, which is known to support energy and stamina and Siberian Ginseng, which is recognised for its ability to help the body adapt to physical and mental stressors.

Finally, the Zen blend is all about promoting a sense of peace while combatting the effects of stress, tension and irritability. It uses the might of CBD and Ashwagandha, which has been used by Ayurvedic practitioners for thousands of years, to bring a wave of calm in moments of need, while still helping to retain focus.

All three blends are vegan friendly and free of artificial ingredients or sweeteners.

The verdict

Here’s the bit you’ve been waiting for!

After trying all three blends during a particularly busy week, here is the lowdown…

TASTE

Each blend has a rich, almost chocolatey flavour, that is somehow more complex than standard coffee. You can tell that a lot of effort has gone into sourcing the best ingredients. Even my coffee snob of a fiancé was impressed, particularly when he realised they came out of a sachet!

I personally preferred to take mine with oat milk to add extra creaminess, but they’re great without if you’re looking for a more intense flavour.

CONVENIENCE

Making a cup of a London Nootropics blend couldn’t be simpler. Just tear a sachet, pour boiling water over it, stir and enjoy!

I love that the blends are instant. Who has time to faff about with a cafetiere when deadlines are looming!

I also think it’s really handy how each blend comes in single-serve sachets. It makes them perfect for taking with you to coworking spaces so you don’t have to suffer awful machine coffee!

FOCUS FACTOR

I have to say, I definitely noticed an uptick in my concentration levels, particularly after drinking the Mojo blend. I felt that the adaptogens gave me the extra boost I needed, more than what I normally get from caffeine alone.

The day I tried Mojo was a particularly challenging one. I really didn’t think I would be able to get through the afternoon. But the Mojo blend got me back on track! I was really surprised by how invigorated I felt and how much I was able to get done. I definitely wouldn’t have done anything productive that day if it wasn’t for Mojo!

PACKAGING

I love the packaging! The sachets are simple, attractive and eco-friendly. Plus, the boxes they come in are slim enough to fit through the letterbox. What more could you ask for!

How did I manage before London Nootropics?!

I’ve been amazed by how London Nootropics’ adaptogenic coffee blends have made me feel more focused, energised and ready to take on my ever-growing to-do list.

What is particularly impressive is how the London Nootropics team has managed to make adaptogenic ingredients so accessible without compromising on the taste of top quality coffee.

I will definitely keep on using London Nootropics’ blends when I need an extra boost (particularly Grind – I think that was my favourite!).

If you want to try them for yourself, I highly recommend you get yourself the Starter Box, which contains four sachets of each of the three blends. Usually priced at £15, get 10% off by using COMMUTEFREEME at the checkout!
