On the lookout for the coolest desks to transform your home office? You’re in the right place.
Being able to create a workspace that works for you and reflects your personality is one of the benefits of working from home. Working from home gives you the freedom to break free of bland, corporate-issue desks in favour of creative spaces that are actually enjoyable to work in.
I have long dreamed of having a statement desk – something that’s effortlessly stylish yet lets people know who’s boss.
Given I live in an average-sized apartment and don’t even have a home office to call my own (yet), my vision is a little way off. For the moment, I’m making do with an Ikea Malm desk. While I like it for its functionality, it sadly doesn’t make the grade for being included in this list.
One day, however, I am determined that I will be the proud owner of one of these coolest desks.
Whether you are like me and looking for some home office inspiration or are ready to splash the cash on a new desk, this list has got you covered. I have trawled the internet in search of the coolest desks around so you don’t have to. The desks are split into two categories:
- The coolest desks money can buy (where money is no object)
- The coolest desks with a more affordable price tag
From desks made from reclaimed tractors to desks that look like they’re floating in mid-air, be prepared to be amazed by some of the most unique desks you can buy online.
The coolest desks money can buy
Aviator airplane wing desk
Inspired by World War II Spitfire fighter planes, this is a seriously cool desk. Created by British furniture designers Smithers of Stamford, this would make a statement in any home office.
Whether or not you’re an aviation fanatic, it’s hard not to be impressed by this desk. Designed in polished aluminium, this aviator desk would fit perfectly in a home office with an industrial vibe.
Reclaimed tractor desk
I’m no farmer but am a little obsessed with this desk. I bet you had never heard of a reclaimed tractor desk until you read this list!
Another design from Smithers of Stamford, this desk has a serious wow factor. Made from a reclaimed Massey Ferguson tractor and boat wood, this is a desk that could add authentic retro character to any office space. And because reclaimed materials are used, each desk from this collection is unique.
It’s not only one of the coolest desks around, but it’s also practical. It features a long table top, which is perfect for people like me who like to spread out when they’re working. The two tractor desk legs also feature plenty of storage space. You could even get an electrician to restore the tractor’s spotlights to dazzle anyone coming into your home office!
Steamer trunk desk
Transport yourself to the 1920s with this colonial-style trunk desk!
If you ever needed to inject some creativity into your work space, this is the desk for you. Maybe it’s just me, but when I look at this desk, it invokes the true spirit of travel. I can’t help but imagine all the adventures that were had back when explorers set off with their trunks in hand, not quite knowing what they were going to discover.
I love the symmetry and unique features of this desk. Made from sustainable mango wood and covered in textured canvas, this desk is real luxury. With leather trim and handles secured with brass coloured studs, no detail has been missed.
Timeless, rustic pine desk
This desk is a perfect example of effortless chic. Sometimes all you need is top quality wood with a contemporary twist.
Made from a single piece of pine wood, this is a desk that is built to last. Made by Bulgarian Etsy store OURHOOD, this desk can be entirely customised to your own taste. You can choose from natural, chestnut, oak, walnut or wenge oil finishes and can even customise the design of the stainless steel legs.
While there are no bells and whistles here, this is a timeless design that could still fit into a coolests desks list in twenty years’ time.
More budget-friendly cool desks
Sleek, gravity-defying desk
This piece takes space-saving desks to the next level. Functional yet beautifully designed, this desk is absolutely perfect if you need to WFH but don’t quite have the space for your own office. I wish I had seen this before I went ahead with my Ikea purchase!
Made by London-based Etsy store and carpentry/ironwork modelling workshop Beskidzka Pracownia Stolarska, this is another desk that will still be cool many years from now. And the solid oak legs and high-quality craftsmanship mean it will still be standing as well.
If you’re not sure whether the graphite grey table top finish will work in your home, fear not! Other colours are available on request.
Quirky ladder desk
Ladder desks seem to be all over Pinterest at the moment and with good reason. Look how cool this desk looks?! It just screams Scandi chic.
Another example of how to fit a well-functioning workspace into a smaller or more open-plan home, I love how this piece isn’t afraid to (quite literally) stand up and be counted. This desk is not only a practical WFH hub, but also a stylish design feature in its own right.
Made from oak by Orange Tree Furniture, this desk is sure to inspire.
Reclaimed scaffold desk
If you’re looking for a rustic, industrial vibe for your home office, this is the desk for you.
Made from reclaimed scaffold boards and heavy duty steel scaffold tubes, this is a statement desk that is both environmentally and budget friendly. Because reclaimed materials are used, every single desk they make is unique. There’s something really cool about knowing you have the only one of something. You definitely can’t say that about Ikea furniture!
Robert Rose Carpentry, the designer of this desk, clearly puts a lot of love into their work. They only select wood boards that they would be happy to have in their own homes and put a lot of effort into ensuring that the finished product reflects the character of the wood. They even do bespoke furniture and welcome customers to get in touch with them directly if they have a specific project in mind.
Scandinavian-style yellow pop desk
Last but not least, this Scandinavian-style desk is simple yet sleek.
The birch table top is a marker of quality and durability, but it’s the legs that make this a cool desk. The contrast between the grey top and yellow legs is striking. The hairpin legs add a touch of contemporary elegance, while the pop of colour brings out a cheeky side.
If you love minimalist design but want to add a dash of creativity to your home office, this desk is an absolute no-brainer.
